Dr. Augustus John (A.J.) Rush III, MD

Dr. Augustus John (A.J.) Rush III is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with advanced fellowship training in spine surgery. A Dallas native, Dr. Rush sees patients at Texas Spine Consultants with locations in Addison and Plano, serving the surrounding communities of Carrollton, Frisco, and Plano.

Dr. Rush graduated cum laude from Tulane University and earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami, serving as Administrative Chief Resident, followed by a spine surgery fellowship at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

He has advanced expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery and cutting-edge technologies, including robotics and augmented reality, as well as specialized SI joint procedures such as the iFuse Implant System®. Dr. Rush is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, has authored book chapters, and lectures nationally and internationally.

Recognized for his commitment to education, Dr. Rush has received the Paff Teaching Award from the University of Miami and the Golden Apple Teaching Award from Rush University. He serves on the Education Committee for the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and is an active member of AAOS, NASS, and ISASS.

Outside of practice, Dr. Rush enjoys time with his wife and son, snow skiing, and traveling.
