Your Surgical Journey

At Methodist Hospital for Surgery, we're committed to making your surgical experience as smooth and comfortable as possible. Follow our comprehensive preparation and recovery guide for optimal outcomes.

Important Health Changes

• If you become ill or if there is any change in your health, please notify your physician immediately.

• For women: If there is any possibility you are pregnant, please notify your physician and a hospital nurse.

Day of Your Surgery

Pre-Surgery Checklist

Personal Care
  • • Bathe and dry your hair the morning of surgery
  • • No styling products, makeup, perfume, or nail polish
What NOT to Bring
  • • No valuables, watches, rings, jewelry
  • • Contact lenses and dentures will be removed
What to Bring
  • • Storage container for contacts/dentures
  • • Current medications in original bottles
Arrival
  • • Arrive promptly at scheduled time
  • • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing

Recovery Options

Outpatient Recovery

After your surgical procedure, you'll be monitored in a quiet recovery area until you're ready to go home.

What to Expect
  • • Normal to feel some discomfort at surgical site
  • • May experience drowsiness or dizziness
  • • Family can join you in Phase 2 recovery
  • • Most patients discharged 1-3 hours after surgery

You must arrange for an adult to drive you home. You will not be allowed to drive yourself.

Inpatient Recovery

After surgery, you'll be moved to the recovery area where you'll be closely monitored until ready to transfer to your overnight room.
