How to Request a Hospital Charge Estimate
Methodist Hospital for Surgery believes it is important for our patients to understand their potential financial responsibility before services are performed. Patients are encouraged to request a charge estimate for any hospital procedure/service/test by calling our Patient Access team at 469-248-3939, or requesting a charge estimate in person at any registration area on campus. Estimates do not include unanticipated tests/procedures/services ordered by your physician nor charges billed separately by your physician(s).
Insured Patient: How Do I Request an Estimate of my out of pocket costs?
Every Insurance plan is different; we encourage our insured patients to contact our Patient Access team at 469-248-3939 to request an estimate of what you may need to pay for services. You will be asked to provide the following information in order to provide the most accurate estimate of your responsibility for services.
- Name of Insurance company
- Type of Policy (HMO, PPO, POS, Indemnity)
- Policy Holder/Member Name
- Policy Number
- Group Name and Number
- Insurance company phone number
- Name of test/procedure/service to be performed
During your call, the representative will verify your insurance and provide you with an estimate of your financial responsibility based on your current insurance benefits.
Please note: This is only an estimate of out of pocket costs and does not confirm coverage of the service or authorization with your insurance company. We encourage you to contact your insurance company to ensure your test/procedure/service is a covered benefit under you insurance plan.
How Will the Billing Process Work If I Have Insurance?
We will bill your insurance company shortly after health care services are provided and you will receive a letter notifying you your insurance has been billed. It usually takes 30-45 days for your insurance company to pay your bill. After your insurance company pays us, we will send you a bill for the amount you owe after insurance.
Uninsured Patient: How Do I Request an Estimate of my out of pocket costs?
Methodist Hospital for Surgery provides a 40% discount to patients who are uninsured and the discounted amount is shown on your first statement.
We encourage our uninsured patients to contact our facility financial counselor at 214-643-6515 to request an estimate of the discounted amount. The financial counselor will ask you to provide the name of the test/procedure/service to be performed in order to provide the most accurate estimate of the discounted amount.
How Will the Billing Process Work If I Do Not Have Insurance?
Payment will be expected on the day of service based on the estimate given. We will bill you shortly after health care services have been rendered for any outstanding balance not paid at the time of registration/discharge.

How Do I Request A Complete Chargemaster Review?
The Affordable Care Act contains a provision that is consistent with our effort to improve the transparency of hospital charges. As a result of the Affordable Care Act, section 2718(e) of the Public Health Service Act requires every hospital operating within the United States develop a policy to make public a list of the hospital’s standard charges for items and services provided by the hospital.
You may request a complete listing of all charges contained within Methodist Hospital for Surgery’s Charge Master in person at our business office or any registration area on our campus.
You may also compare average inpatient charges using the Texas Hospital Association's website called Texas PricePoint. Data presented on this site includes charges on the most common inpatient services, links to quality data, and general information about Texas hospitals.
Understanding Your Physician Billing Process
Physicians are independent contractors and are not employed by Methodist Hospital for Surgery. Physician prices are set by the individual physician practice. Professional fees charged by these physicians for services provided to you will be billed by these physicians separately from the fees charged by the hospital. Some of these physicians may be considered out of network by your insurance carrier. Ask your surgeons if he or she will be referring to any specialists who are out of network.

- Emergency Room Physicians
- Primary Care Physicians
- Specialty Care Physicians
- Other Specialists
